Doughty Street Chambers has a long-established and highly regarded reputation in housing and social welfare and are pleased to be ranked Band 1/Tier 1 in Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 respectively. We would now like to expand the breadth of the team’s experience and are seeking to recruit an excellent practitioner in the 9-15 years’ call bracket.

Members of our Housing and Social Welfare team appear at all levels from the First-Tier Tribunal to the Supreme Court, and we have acted in many of the leading cases on homelessness, social entitlement, possession, housing benefit and anti-social behaviour. We are best known for protecting the most vulnerable clients around and defending the rights of individuals, but we are committed to providing an excellent service for all our clients.

Doughty Street Chambers benefits from and encourages a multi-disciplinary approach, with members of the team also practising successfully in discrimination law, community care, mental capacity law, education and immigration law, amongst other areas. Our clerking and practice management is second to none.

The successful applicant will be an established and ‘excellent’ practitioner with a clear specialism in housing and social welfare law and a commitment to the values and ethos of Doughty Street Chambers. We particularly welcome applications from women, non-White applicants and others who are under-represented at the Bar.

Do you want to join a friendly and committed team of Housing Solicitors?

We are looking to recruit a two full- time Housing solicitors to undertake a wide range of casework including defending possession proceedings, counterclaims, homelessness appeals and public law actions

You will be a qualified solicitor and have a minimum of two years’ experience of casework and representation in housing law, public law or another area of social welfare law. You will have experience of working under a Legal Aid Contract. You must have an ability to manage a substantial caseload and achieve billing targets.

We offer excellent terms and conditions, flexible working and 35 days annual leave. Applicants who want to work part-time would be considered.

Salary: £31,000 up to £37,920 (depending on number of years PQE)

Closing date: 17 February 2022 12pm
