East European Resource Centre (EERC) is seeking a Housing Solicitor to join our fantastic team. Some key details:
  • Salary: £35,472 – £38,762 per annum
  • Contract: Full time and permanent
This role will work with people in a variety of situations including those experiencing homelessness, precarious or poor-quality housing, ill health/disability, domestic abuse, and hate crime.
The successful candidate will likely provide legal advice, casework, and representation on a wide range of matters including homelessness, defending possession proceedings, housing applications, disrepair, harassment and discrimination, and private landlord disputes. It may be necessary to make representations to court but this is not likely to be routine.
Please let us know if you have expertise in another area of social welfare law and if you would be interested in continuing to practice this alongside housing law.
This role can be done entirely from our office or in a hybrid between office and work from home.

Post: Trainee Solicitor

Salary: £27,500 p.a.

Hours: 35 hours per week

Location: Luton (hybrid working)

To start: April 2025 – fixed term contract for 2 years.

The Justice First Fellowship (JFF) is a prestigious scheme established by The Legal Education Foundation to support the next generation of social justice lawyers who want to pursue a career is social welfare law. As a JFF at Luton Law Centre you will complete your legal training and development needed to qualify as a solicitor specialising in social welfare law. The cost of any mandatory training to qualify will also be covered. You will also develop a project in collaboration with us and benefit from professional development and wider skills training via the JFF.

Luton Law Centre is an independent legal advice agency that specialises in social welfare law. We are members of the Law Centres Network and Advice UK. We strive for a just and equal society where everyone’s rights are valued and protected.  We do this by providing legal support, services, information, and education to the diverse communities of Luton and its surrounding areas.  As a registered charity it is our purpose to alleviate poverty and to improve access to services. We provide free specialist legal advice and assistance, casework and representation in housing, immigration, asylum and community care law through grant funding and our legal aid contracts. We provide representation for tenants and homeowners at Luton Justice Centre as part of the Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service. You will have the opportunity to work, under supervision, on a range of cases in all these areas of law including representing clients at court.

Applicants for the Fellowship positions must meet the following criteria:

  • To have completed and passed (or expected to pass by 14 March 2025) the LPC or SQE1
  • To be able to commit to remaining for the duration of the two-year Fellowship
  • To be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for and a commitment to social justice and social welfare law
