Merseyside Law Centre

Housing Solicitor/Caseworker
35 Hours per week

Salary: £26,000 to £36,700 depending on qualifications and experience

Merseyside Law Centre delivers free specialist social welfare legal advice and assistance in Housing, Immigration and Welfare Benefits. We have surgeries at outreach locations and in 3 courts across the Liverpool City Region. We provide all levels of advice up to and including specialist legal casework and court and tribunal.

The need for our services has never been greater and we have secured funding to increase our capacity to meet growing demand and achieve better outcomes for our clients at all stages of the legal advice process. This is an exciting opportunity for a Housing Solicitor/Caseworker, who shares our commitment to Access to Justice, to join our growing Law Centre.

We have a hybrid working policy and staff can work partly from home and partly office based in Liverpool.

Legal Officer (Litigation)

We are looking for someone to join our Legal Services Team as a Legal Officer.

What you’ll be doing:

In this role you will carry out WDH’s litigation function in relation to a wide range of housing and tenancy related issues. Responsibilities will include undertaking advocacy work, advising and representing WDH in court in relation to anti-social behaviour, disrepair actions, trespass and alternative dispute resolution.

What we’re looking for:

a Law qualification at Level 6 of the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications;

the ability to resolve a range of legal problems;

experience of working within a legal environment;

knowledge of Housing Law, litigation and court work;

strong advocacy skills and presentation skills.;

knowledge of Criminal and Civil Litigation and the relevant rules of procedure; and

strong communication skills and the ability to manage your own caseload and have excellent IT and keyboard skills.

This post also requires applicants to hold a current, valid UK driving license with the ability to travel throughout the district.
