Finally! – Fitness for Human Habitation passes

19/12/2018

The Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Bill passed Third Reading in the House of Lords on 19 December.

If you are reading this on 20 December, it might even already be an Act, as it may receive royal assent on 20 December.

The Bill/Act provides that it comes into force 3 months from ‘being passed’, so by my reckoning, it will be in force on 19 March 2019. which is the date of Royal Assent. So, if it gets royal assent on 20 Dec, in force on 20 March 2019.

The Bill/Act in its final form is here.

There will inevitably be more on this, including some self indulgence, to come. But for now, many congratulations to the remarkable Karen Buck MP for the extraordinary feat of getting an opposition MP’s private members’ bill into law.

Update – here is the Act as an Act!
