We’re looking for a results-driven individual with experience of providing specialist level housing advice to join us as a Housing Advice, Support & Guidance Worker and take on this challenging role focused on homelessness prevention and tenancy sustainment.
Shelter’s London HUB advice services are delivered from sites in Islington, Hackney and Newham. This role involves working on our London Councils’ contract and providing specialist housing and generalist welfare benefits and debt advice to clients across London. This work is carried out via the telephone and email, as well as face-to-face in the form of outreach services and drop-in sessions.

Your key responsibilities:
- Deliver an integrated yet flexible advice and support service aimed at helping clients find and retain accommodation
- Carry out initial housing needs assessments and develop a strategy with the client, support them when moving into accommodation and connect them with local support services
- Build and maintain relationships with our partner agencies and help promote and develop our London advice services
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the service, raise policy issues and support the inclusion of volunteers.
And what you’ll need:
- Proven relevant experience gained working with vulnerable people and/or people with multiple and complex needs within a safeguarding framework
- A proactive, collaborative and results-driven approach, the ability to lead change, excellent relationship building skills and sensitivity to the needs of others
- Good typing skills and proficiency using case management systems and Microsoft Office applications
- A willingness to travel in order to deliver one or two outreach sessions pan-London per week.

Paralegal
Brixton Advice Centre is looking to recruit a top calibre law student, graduate, or individual with relevant experience to work with a Consultant Solicitor for five days per week at the Centre from 9.30 am-5.30 pm, starting as soon as possible after interview.
The position will involve conducting initial client interviews and recording their instructions, advising clients, communicating with external bodies, time recording, and general administrative duties.
We require a self-motivated individual with excellent spoken and written communication skills, the ability to quickly absorb legal information and to conduct legal research. You will have good organisational and time management skills and be able to produce documents to tight deadlines. Patience and tact is necessary as you will be assisting vulnerable people.
This long-term position would be ideal for a person seeking experience in the Human Rights field. Salary circa 23k.

Legal Assistant
Brixton Advice Centre is looking to recruit a top calibre law student, graduate, or individual with relevant experience to work full-time with a Consultant Solicitor from 9.30 am-5.00 pm in offices in Barnes, starting as soon as possible after interview.
Initially, you will assist in a billing project. You will have excellent organisational and time management skills, an eye for detail and be able to complete tasks to tight deadlines. Legal billing experience would be an advantage, but is not essential.
Based on performance, the successful candidate may progress to a paralegal position.
We require a self-motivated individual with excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to quickly absorb legal information and to conduct legal research.
