A rose by any other name…

17/10/2013

The First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) is a grand title but suffers the fatal flaw of lacking a suitable three letter abbreviation (recursively, a TLA). Unlike LVT, there is no easy way to refer to the new Chamber, at least not without gabbling and/or running out of breath. Or worse, doing the double finger wag thing for the brackets.

So, we will have to go with phoentics.

I hereby nominate the new familiar name of the FTT(PC) to be ‘Futpuck’.

It will catch on. just wait and see.

Giles Peaker is a solicitor and partner in the Housing and Public Law team at Anthony Gold Solicitors in South London. You can find him on Linkedin and on Bluesky. (No longer on Twitter). Known as NL round these parts.

We did try TPC but that brought back memories of gargling or being “creative” for work experience to get an ARICS ( MRICS for younger readers and their APC’s). PCT confused some with hospitals. It seems everyone is far less inventive than you Giles, and stuck to ” tribunal” or FTT, or my FTT(nee LVT). I am sure some might add a word that rhymes with “Puck”

We came up with futpuc in our firm as a mnemonic when it first came then. Since then the acronym has degenerated into how you feel the next day after a very good night out.
