Nearly Legal: Housing Law News and Comment

Job ad – Manchester

Greater Manchester Law Centre

Greater Manchester Law Centre (GMLC) is one of the few specialist housing advice agencies in the North West. We don’t just provide free legal advice to those experiencing homelessness and facing eviction, but work with communities to challenge the inequitable housing system that means that millions of people live in insecure, inadequate accommodation with few legal rights.

We are offering two opportunities within our housing team:

1. Housing Solicitor
2. Trainee Housing Solicitor/Housing Caseworker

We are keen to recruit people with a passion for social justice who have some experience of housing advice but will offer training and development opportunities including through the Solicitors Qualifying Examination if you do not hold a formal legal qualification.

In both roles you will work with partners to support individuals to exercise their rights, build collective structures and responses based upon community experience and advocate for social and policy change to overcome the causes of the injustice that many face regarding their housing situation. You will be at the front-line of housing justice providing desperately needed advice in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

You will be based within the team at GMLC’s offices in Longsight but with a Greater Manchester wide remit. GMLC is a campaigning-focused advice agency that fights for free access to justice – we would specifically refer to our manifesto regarding our guiding principles and method of working with and for communities suffering injustice and inequality.

Closing date for applications is midday on Monday 8 January 2024. Interviews will be in person at GMLC in the week of Monday 15 January 2024.
