Youth Legal

Youth Legal is an independent charity based in Wandsworth, assisting marginalised and vulnerable young people across the London area.  We facilitate young people’s access to justice through high quality young person-friendly legal advice, support and education.  Our specialist legal advice is focussed on fighting for children and young people to be safe and secure, with appropriate housing and care.  This is a unique opportunity to provide specialist legal advice and representation to vulnerable young people and to ensure they have access to justice.

We are looking to recruit a part-time/3 day a week housing and/or community care solicitor or caseworker to undertake a wide range of casework including defending possession proceedings, counterclaims, homelessness appeals, Children Act and Care Act public law actions in the County and High Courts.  You do not need to be a qualified solicitor but must have a minimum of two years experience of casework and representation in housing and/or community care law.  We have Legal Aid Agency contracts in housing and community care, therefore the successful candidate will have experience in running Legal Aid Agency contract work/CCMS and must have an ability to manage a substantial caseload and achieve billing targets.

We are committed to our staff and think it’s important to provide a good working environment, ensuring we all have the support and resources we need to carry out our work to the best of our abilities in a friendly and collaborative working environment.  We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.  We also want to provide pathways for young solicitor/caseworkers to access working in social welfare law.  We offer excellent terms and conditions, flexible working (at least one day a week in the office) and 30 days annual leave. Applicants who wish to work 2 days a week or more hours will be considered.  Salary: £29000-33,335  (pro rata depending on experience)

CLOSING DATE: 6pm 17th April 2023
