Nearly Legal: Housing Law News and Comment

Refurbishment

1290445055_a50fc17cbb_oThe site had been getting a bit unwieldy lately as things got added – the downloads, the bedroom tax page and so on – plus the ever burgeoning archives. Then there were glitches with the email updates for subscribers. So, I have done a bit of a revamp, with the aim of making things cleaner and easier to find.

There is a new home page – which is now the landing page for nearlylegal.co.uk/blog/ This has excerpts of the 4 most recent posts, but also permanent links to all the other pages, resources and information (much of which used to be crammed into the sidebar and footer).  There is a permanent contact form in the footer on all pages, so it is no longer hidden away on the ‘about’ page.

What was the front page – the list of most recent posts – is now here – or go via ‘Blog’ in the menu.

The top menu has had a bit of a makeover, and you can now select archive categories from the menu, as well as the home page.

The actual posts and pages are now much cleaner and, I think, more pleasant to read. The whole site should also work well on mobiles and tablets. All links people have previously made to particular posts will be fine, there has been no change there.

The mailing list problem has hopefully been resolved and all existing subscribers brought into the new setup. If you are reading this as part of a new look email update on Monday morning, it worked! If you aren’t and should have been, it didn’t, in which case, there will be much swearing.

I’ve moved from the Google Feedburner package, as while Google might not yet have abandoned it completely, they certainly don’t maintain or update it. The new email subscription service is our own, and a bit more customisable. It does, however, cost a bit. I’ll be watching the charges and it may turn out that we will start levying a small charge for job ads (and I do mean small, a few quid) to cover the operating costs. It will be announced beforehand, if we go that route. As ever, email addresses will only be used for the purpose of emails from Nearly Legal, and nothing else.

There may still be some tweaks and adjustments to come, but I hope the new structure makes things easier to find, or indeed discover, and that using the site is a more pleasant experience.
