Now, whilst this may look a bit cheeky, I think this is pretty interesting. The Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) is recruiting for a Deputy President (see here) and, exceptionally, the Lord Chancellor has agreed to waive the requirement that you already be a judicial office holder. Solicitors and Barristers with 7 years PQE (or equivalent other legal experience) are entitled to apply. The salary is £128,296 and you get 30 days holiday, plus public and civil service holidays. I can’t imagine that the job is that hard. After all, most LVT appeals just involve reminding the LVT of the rules of natural justice.*
I wonder who will go for this? There are some current UT members who will, I presume, be interested. But what about other non-judicial office holders? There are some excellent lawyers out there who do the sort of work that the UT covers and I wonder if this might appeal to them?
