As visitors to the site may have noticed, I’ve made a few changes (and apologies to anyone who visited on Sunday and got 4 or 5 different and rapidly changing versions of the site).
The problem was that having 10 full posts on the front (and subsequent) pages was making the site slow to load and difficult to read, particularly for anyone checking for updates.
So I’ve changed it. Now an excerpt of 130 words of each post appears on the front (and subsequent) pages, and in search results, with a ‘read more’ link to the full post.
I’ve also cut down the number of posts on the front page to 5 – which is about 2 or 3 days worth when we are busy.
This should make it easier to catch up with recent posts and to skim new entries for ones that interest you.
There is also a new search box, which allows you to select a category in which to search. Don’t set a category and it will search the whole site.
There is new navigation by page number at the bottom of each page, as the fancy navigation device at the top, which is supposed to stick at the top of your window as you scroll down, doesn’t stick in Internet Explorer and going back to the top to go to the next or previous page is a pain. The page numbering also works in search results, showing the specific page numbers of results..
And I’ve added a photo at the bottom of the page, to make it look pretty.
