Philcox Gray is a long established and well respected firm specialising in Housing & Public Law, Family & Childcare.

Our dedicated Housing Team consists of 4 solicitors, and paralegal support. We aim to provide high quality legal advice and representation.

We are looking for a keen and enthusiastic paralegal with a strong “can do” attitude, who can support our team and the important work it does.

Previous knowledge of housing law is not essential, but would be desirable. Knowledge of legal aid work would also be helpful to the successful candidate.

You will have a willingness to assist in a variety of aspects of housing law and to work well as part of our team.

We’re looking for an experienced Managing Solicitor who will successfully lead two of our London teams in providing a viable, high quality legal service to homeless people and other people in housing need.
Shelter Legal Services team has an enviable national reputation for excellence in the provision of housing law. As well as providing casework services for individual clients and internal consultancy, we support the organisational priorities of policy and campaigning on housing law and access to justice issues. We are committed to continuous improvement to meet the demands arising out of the external environment including legal aid reform.

Your key responsibilities:

• Managing, supervising, supporting and developing a team of solicitors, advisers and support staff

And what you’ll need:

• Substantial experience of handling a wide range of housing cases, both public and private sector
• In-depth knowledge of issues like homelessness, security of tenure and possessions proceedings
• Legal Aid supervisor status in housing
• The ability to manage teams to achieve targets, as well as good communication and problem solving skills.

We’re looking for a dynamic solicitor with in-depth experience of successfully managing a legal practice through a period of change. Join us as Deputy National Legal Services Manager – South and play a key role within Shelter Legal Services.

• Providing operational support to the National Legal Services Manager and Principal Solicitor through effective planning and business management that will enable us to deliver high quality services to those with housing problems in a timely and efficient way
• Managing a team of managing solicitors and key aspects of our day-to-day operations in London and other locations and helping to implement a change management strategy
• Playing your part in working towards ensuring all Shelter’s clients are able to obtain a legal service
• Helping to enhance our reputation for excellence and innovation and embed a culture of highly professional, fully compliant standards
• The opportunity to carry a small caseload and support strategic litigation.

And what you’ll need:

• Demonstrable experience as a manager and qualified solicitor, including a background in running a successful legal practice
• A track record of managing a team to achieve targets and managing change
• Innovation, imagination, experience of setting, monitoring and managing budgets and high calibre problem solving skills
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills, a proactive, results-driven and commercially aware approach and the ability to think laterally and challenge the ‘status quo’.
