There's been lots of speculation about motive. Was it money - to ensure the mother received costs? Was Hyman having an affair with the mother?

The fraudulent document is very clever, quite a literary achievement. A great deal of work and planning went into this, and Hyman risked career, reputation and prison if caught. He must have been fairly certain he wouldn't be.

The intention seems to have been to ensure that the judge in the case did not recuse himself. Again, lots of speculation - were Hyman and the judge in cahoots - but no real answers. Perhaps we'll never know.
